
SUCCINT HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (SPECIAL) OYO
The Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria on 5th October, 1977 and it is the only College of Special Education in the Sub Saharan Africa. The main aim of establishing Federal College Of Education (SPECIAL), Oyo, is to train and produce a crop of highly professional and technically skilled manpower for special needs education at both primary and secondary level of education; to provide inclusive education which comprise able human being and people living with disabilities in order to embrace their self esteem of fulfilling their purpose of existence in life. Thereafter, the Alumni association came into existence after the first set of students graduated from the institution, with the intention of bringing the graduates of the institution together for the purpose of encouraging the current students to give their best to education to become credible Alumni members of the institution.
The Alumni association has its organogram at its earliest stage with the only executive members under the leadership of the National President. The trend continued until the millennium period where the organization extended to year set, and the state chapters to date. The Federal Government of Nigeria made it a policy that the Alumni member must be an automatic member at the Governing Council being a major stakeholder in the affairs of the institution.
ADVENT OF FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (SPECIAL), OYO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
An Alumni Association is a group of individuals who have graduated from an institution or an organized group of former students of a school, college, university or other educational institution with the primary function of fostering connections and engagement between Alumni and the institution they attended. The Alumni members usually come together to organize social events and raise funds to improve the institution in all ramifications. It also promote the institution’s interest by enhancing the relationships among Alumni members, staff students as well as the immediate community or host of the institution.
VISION OF FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (Special) Oyo Alumni Association
The vision of Alumni association are enormous and indispensable as well as over emphasized which includes:
1. To build school community relationship in providing quality education for the overall development of the institution.
2. To support a network of former graduates that will reciprocate the gesture of the institution in raising the profile of their alma-mata.
3. To organize events and activities that benefits current students such as workshop, guest lectures and social events.
4. To provide scholarship opportunities for the on-going school students.
5. To promote the school’s vision, mission and goals internally and externally.
6. To facilitate networking opportunities for current students and graduates, potentially leading to internships and job placements.
7. To provide valuable mentorship and guidance to current students, helping them navigate their academic and professional journeys.
8. To provide infrastructural facilities for the institution.
9. To facilitate projects/donations such as classrooms, halls amongst other educational enhancement projects.
10. To incorporate a commitment to evolving and adapting to the changing needs of Alumni and the institution.
11. To offer advice on the relevance of the curriculum to the demand of the professional workplace.
12. To serve as role model to the current students of their alma-mata.
13. To exercise a considerable amount of influence on the policy direction of education reforms.
14. To project the good image of F.C.E. (SPECIAL),OYO to the outside world.
15. To coordinate the activities of F.C.E. (SPECIAL), OYO Alumni association in Nigeria and Diaspora.
16. To promote healthy relationship with the Alumni associations of other institutions most significantly colleges of education.
